After revealing its cover art piece by piece over the last two weeks, the final art of Issue #17: Thank You, Mr. Iwata has been unveiled. Above, you’ll see the final video in the six-part video series chronicling its creation and composition. This video combines all of the previous five and adds artist commentary, giving you insight into the creation process! Issue #17 is now complete and is heading your way! Digital customers will be getting links to download it in their email over the next few days (there was a huge volume of new orders from new customers this time, so it’s going to take us just a little while to sort through all of those). Print customers, meanwhile, can expect their copies to arrive in early-to-mid October. As usual, it takes a couple weeks for each new issue to go through the entire process of being physically printed, packaged and mailed out to thousands of different addresses. Now […]

Hey there, Nintendo Force fans! Our tribute issue dedicated to Mr. Iwata is coming your way soon, and today we’re continuing our video series revealing its cover art one piece at a time. The talented artists behind YouTube’s Smashified art series have created the incredible art, separated into several different segments. Each segment of the cover art represents a different Nintendo game or franchise which Mr. Iwata impacted in a critical way. And each one is getting its own time-lapse video so you can see the art come to life, from earliest sketches to finished creation! First up was the Pokémon series, second was the two-in-one Balloon Fight + Kirby reveal, third was Super Smash Bros. and fourth was EarthBound! Now, in today’s fifth video, it’s Mr. Iwata himself! Little explanation is needed for this one – it’s Mr. Iwata striking his most iconic pose, his “Direct to You!” hand gesture from the last several years of Nintendo Direct video presentations. Don’t miss your chance to […]

The EarthBound fandom needs no introduction at this point. They’re the most dedicated, most diehard disciples of a single game series on the planet – rallying together in communities like Starmen.net, spinning off to launch awesome game merch stores like Fangamer, pooling their talents to […]

First up was the Pokémon series, and second was the two-in-one Balloon Fight + Kirby reveal. Today it’s Super Smash Bros.! Years ago, Mr. Iwata and his friend and colleague Masahiro Sakurai wanted to make a fighting game that would be more accessible for players of all skill levels. As development continued, Nintendo mascot characters were cast as the fighters and a franchise phenomenon was born! Mr. Iwata […]

First up was the Pokémon series, and today it’s a two-for-one: Balloon Fight and Kirby! No other single game is so closely associated with Mr. Iwata as Balloon Fight, as it was one of his earliest works created for Nintendo’s 8-bit hardware in the early ’80s – its signature floating/arm-flapping control style was even re-used for the controls to move Mario while swimming in the original Super […]

And each one is getting its own time-lapse video so you can see the art come to life, from earliest sketches to finished creation! First up is the Pokémon series! Without Mr. Iwata’s programming wizardry and business savvy, the Pokémon series would not have enjoyed the success it did in its earliest days – nor would it have been set up to succeed in the long-term, for nearly 20 years now. His code-writing skill allowed the development team of Pokémon Gold & Silver to double the size of the explorable game world, […]

Hey there, Nintendo fans! Been a pretty crazy day for the Super Smash Bros. fandom, hasn’t it? All of the chaos surrounding those unintentional character confirmations just so happens to coincide with a Smash-related announcement we were going to make today, too. Synergy! First is the Why: The Nintendo Force is now celebrating two years of working together! The news of Nintendo Power’s cancellation rang out around the world a little over two years ago, in August 2012, and the first brainstorming emails that would lead to the creation of NF Magazine began going out immediately after that. Two years ago from this very moment, we were already hard at work planning out what NF’s Issue #1 would be. To mark the occasion, we have a challenge for you! We’d like to see even more Nintendo fans jump on board with NF Magazine subscriptions (of course), so we’re issuing a challenge to all of you established supporters – if we […]
