Issue #21’s Cover Art Revealed!
Today is April 20, 2016, which means it’s been exactly 10 years since the fan-favorite Mother 3 first went on sale in Japan! In honor of that 10th anniversary of its release (and its strongly rumored upcoming English language release), the iconic Mother 3 will be the next game to grace the cover of NF Magazine.
Issue #21 will be called “Lost in Untranslation” and turn its attention to the many different Nintendo games of the past few decades that fans living outside Japan never got the chance to play . . . officially, at least. A central feature will profile several of Nintendo’s most interesting unlocalized titles, from the well known to the obscure, examining the circumstances surrounding the decisions not to translate each one. Clyde “Tomato” Mandelin, our Interview section subject from Issue #20 and the driving force behind Mother 3’s fan translation, will return in this issue with the first installment of a new Legends of Localization column for the Retro section. Tom Lipschultz of XSEED, who just wrapped translation on Return to PopoloCrois, will offer us his insights into what goes on during the game localization process.
And much more! The localizations of Nintendo’s titles have certainly been a prominent point of debate recently, so the Nintendo Force is diving into the topic, with the troubled history of Mother 3 taking center stage as the focal point of discussion.
The cover art has been crafted by skilled clay modeler Ruy Fernando Estrada Rivera. Looks pretty snazzy, don’t you think?
