Our milestone 25th issue is here! As 2016 comes to an end and 2017 is ushered in, Nintendo is in a time of transition. The Wii U is done – its time in the spotlight is over. And the all-new Nintendo Switch is mere months away! Here in this in-between time, we’ve taken the opportunity to look back and reflect on the entirety of the Wii U era. But it’s not a simple walk down memory lane, because strong rumors suggest that many of Wii U’s biggest hits will be making encore appearances on Switch! Whether they’re presented as ports, sequels, “director’s cuts” or whatever else, brands like Mario Kart, Splatoon, Super Smash Bros. and more look poised to build on the foundations of their Wii U editions and add even more content for Switch. Of course, the one game that we know for sure is going to appear on both systems is the game we selected to appear on […]

With the new Nintendo Switch now officially announced, Nintendo’s focus is fully switching (ha!) to the next console generation. Bridging the gap between that new era and the current console cycle that’s coming to a close is none other than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – since it’s going to be released with both Wii U and Switch versions. It will claim the coveted cover position for our milestone 25th issue that spotlights the transition between two chapters: Saying farewell to the Wii U, and saying hello to the Switch! If you aren’t already a subscriber, go to Patreon.com/NintendoForce and click the “Become a Patron” button to sign up! Be quick about it, though, because you’ve got to sign up before the cut-off date of December 16 to make it on the mailing list for this issue! As always, print copies of Issue #25 will be packaged with a double-sided wall poster. This time around, you’ll get two different […]

The next generation of Pokémon is nearly upon us! The highly anticipated Pokémon Sun and Moon go on sale on November 18, so they’ll be claiming the coveted cover position for our November/December edition. Or, rather, the cover positions, plural! We’re revisiting a concept we haven’t used since Issue #9: a flippable double cover! You’ll get the majesty of Solgaleo representing Pokémon Sun on one side, and the mystery of Lunala championing Pokémon Moon on the reverse. But unlike our older issues with flippable covers, we’re actually going all-in on the “upside down” idea this time! Issue #24 will be a wholly unique fusion of two halves to create one flippable whole – half of the issue’s content will be viewable rightside up from Solgaleo’s perspective, while the other half will only read the right way if you begin your flipping from Lunala’s cover. It’s going to be pretty nifty! (And don’t worry, digital readers. We’ll make all the content […]

Have you ever walked into a house and thought the paint on the walls was totally atrocious? Maybe the carpet was a horrid color too, and the decorating was disgusting. And yet, the people who live there must love all of those things, or else they wouldn’t have chosen each one! Some people just have different tastes than others. The same holds true for video games. Over the years, different companies have tried to freshen up aging franchises by giving them fresh coats of paint – introducing striking visual changes in a new sequel, or shifting a series’ style of gameplay entirely. And, every time one of these shiny new paintjobs is presented to the public, you can bet that opinion’s going to be split on whether it was the right decision or not. Some people will love it! Other will hate it. Tastes will always differ. In our next issue of NF Magazine, we’ll find ourselves in the midst […]

Since the day that Super Mario Bros.’ countdown clock started ticking its seconds away, players have had to fight against not only the enemies and obstacles placed before them in video games, but also against time itself. In the decades since, manipulating time, traveling through time and racing against the clock have all become more refined and complex ideas leveraged by great game designs – and perhaps no fight against time will be so twisted as the one set to be presented in the upcoming Zero Time Dilemma, which claims the coveted cover spot for our all-new Issue #22! We’ll dive further into the history of time-focused games, bring you an exclusive interview with Kotaro Uchikoshi (the creator of Zero Time Dilemma and its predecessors, 999 and Virtue’s Last Reward) and also present, at last, a blowout on the next Legend of Zelda adventure – which may even have some time-warping aspects in it, too! All of this will be accompanied as always […]

Today is April 20, 2016, which means it’s been exactly 10 years since the fan-favorite Mother 3 first went on sale in Japan! In honor of that 10th anniversary of its release (and its strongly rumored upcoming English language release), the iconic Mother 3 will be the next game to grace the cover of NF Magazine. Issue #21 will be called “Lost in Untranslation” and turn its attention to the many different Nintendo games of the past few decades that fans living outside Japan never got the chance to play . . . officially, at least. A central feature will profile several of Nintendo’s most interesting unlocalized titles, from the well known to the obscure, examining the circumstances surrounding the decisions not to translate each one. Clyde “Tomato” Mandelin, our Interview section subject from Issue #20 and the driving force behind Mother 3’s fan translation, will return in this issue with the first installment of a new Legends of Localization column […]
